The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a challenge for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard biological terror, but beneath Together resides a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Debut Feature Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the conventions cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and distant from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie grapple with the sort of issues that arise in any relationship over a long period. At their core, they still love each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could act as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
